Daily Prompt // success

Today’s prompt on The Daily Post is success, patting someone on the back, being proud of one’s accomplishment.  When my lil’ family went on our extended camping trip a few weeks back, my lil’ guy amazed me, made me proud, accomplished something he didn’t even know he was capable of doing.  He hiked the majority of the Shavano Mountain trail – a gain in elevation from 9,700 feet to 12,200 feet and 4.4 miles EaCh WaY.

Agnes Vaille falls

When my lil’ family went on our camping trip a couple of weeks ago, we went on several hikes.  You can read about our hike at Independence Pass here.  For our next hike, we decided to do the short .5 mile hike up to Agnes Vaille falls, located in the Chalk Creek Canyon.  Although the hike is only about 1 mile roundtrip, it does have an elevation gain of approximately 450ft.

Weekly Photo Challenge: escape

This week’s photo challenge at The Daily Post is escape.  This word, for me, conjures up images of engaging in an activity or possibly an adventure that totally submerses you.  You leave the world behind and focus only on the enjoyment at hand.  Your brain is free to take it all in through all 5 senses and to run a continuous loop through your brain of all your stress free moments.  These pictures represent escape to me.

Aunt Sandy's turn.. Micah and Nicklaus checking out the map. What do you do to “escape” the stresses of the day to day?  Do you engage in outdoor activities?  Enjoy a nice meal with a perfectly paired wine?  Submerse yourself in a great read with a cup of coffee and a comfortable chair?  Sometimes, it is the little things…

AdVeNtUrE Time last year (#2)

Adventures with my family make me happy.  Memories of these adventures make me smile.  So, I decided to start a new series each month called “AdVeNtUrE Time last year…”  I will load this post with pictures/memories of my family’s adventure this time last year.  Hope you enjoy this second post in this series.

In April 2012, my family and I went camping in the Pisgah National Forest in the Appalachian Mountains in the western part of NC.  We enjoyed some hiking, fly fishing, bouldering, and just playing in the river.

HaPpY SpRiNg

So, today is the first day of SpRiNg!!  That, along with cleaning out my flower beds yesterday, has my nerve endings pinging for warmer days.  I thought today I would share some images with you that speak “spring.”  Spring makes me anxious for blooming flowers, scurrying animals, hiking and camping,  growing vegetables and herbs, fly fishing, watching nature, grilling out, living outdoors, etc.  I hope you enjoy!
