Today’s prompt on The Daily Post is success, patting someone on the back, being proud of one’s accomplishment. When my lil’ family went on our extended camping trip a few weeks back, my lil’ guy amazed me, made me proud, accomplished something he didn’t even know he was capable of doing. He hiked the majority of the Shavano Mountain trail – a gain in elevation from 9,700 feet to 12,200 feet and 4.4 miles EaCh WaY.
You are teaching him a healthy lifestyle that he will benefit from all of his life.
He is definitely an outside kid. I am grateful that he will know the joys of camping, hiking, fly fishing, biking and especially the sense of accomplishment when he reaches the top.
Good job Mom!
and so you should be… that’s quite an accomplishment… love the photos and boy that is one beautiful view from up there… now one thing I notice, Hubby has the sticks and you two not… or did you all have the aids…??
My husband always hikes with hiking poles. I seldom do because I prioritize my camera over them. I get frustrated with having to put them down every time I want to snap a photo. My lil’ guy is about 50/50 but he did not want his this day. Thanks for your lovely comment.
I have a walking stick the top of which unscrewws and the camera fits on top of the stick… find when climbing I puff and pant to much to take photos and the stick helps no end… but then you’re way younger than I am…but remember this say 40 years from now….lol
That sounds like something I need to look into. Thanks for the information.

You are such an inspiration. My fiance and I are planning on having children in the next couple of years (after our AT adventure) and I want to make sure my children experience the life you’re giving your son. 🙂 You are truly a part of making this world a better place.
Thank you so very much for your lovely words. I think that if you have a love for it and continue having those adventures even after having children, they can’t help but love it, too.
😀
Congrats to your son! So many people miss out on such beautiful places because of the work it takes to get there. But, nature always gives back one-hundred fold what it asks of you…Good for you and your husband for showing your son why all the work is worth it!
Thanks so much. We introduced him to the great outdoors at a very early age and how exploring nature can reenergize your body and soul. Thanks so much for the lovely comment.
Your boy did great! I hope I can incentivate my son when he is a little older to hike too. It’s a wonderful sport! How old was your boy when you first took him for hiking?
We started taking him on hikes in a Kelty on our back at 3 months of age. When he was old enough to walk, we just did very short hikes with him. Start them young and they can’t help but love it!
awesome photos. i LOVE hikes with the boys. such a great experience. what an awesome activity to share with your son- something that he will love for thank and have you to thank for that. =)

Wow Melanee! Such a great accomplishment for your son! He is quite lucky to have been able to do this with you and in this beautiful setting!!
Thanks so much. It was definitely a fun and memorable hike.
